Details About Our Mattresses - Competitor Comparisons
A Note About Cotton Batting: Many manufacturers overfill their mattresses with up to eight inches of very cheap, pre-compressed, raw cotton batting. Over time, this pre-compression loosens up, and absorbs both perspiration and dust mites which float into your home when you open the front door. Since your mattress is closed up, it's dark in there! You add a 98 degree body to that, and you've got a perfect environment for bacteria to develop on natural fibers. That's where dust mites come in. They eat the bacteria and leave behind their waste residue. As they multiply, this actually increases the weight of your bed to twice it's original weight. This can also lead to bedbug infestation. Bedbugs eat the dust mites, and you get an actual food chain. Eliminate the cotton, stop the packing down and clumping, and produce a much cleaner sleep surface. You should know, raw cotton batting manufacturers usually not only put the cotton above the coil unit as the insulator, but also lay in a layer on the top of the foam. If you inspect the law tag, many of these products range from 21-33% raw cotton. That's a third of the bed in raw cotton! We don't do that to you. We offer synthetic fibers that hold neither heat nor moisture. This keeps your bed fresh, clean, most importanly - COMFORTABLE - for years to come. Have you been burned on a big fat mattress for over a thousand bucks only to have severe body impressions in less than a year? Raw cotton - this is why.

Coil Construction: Other reasons fairly new mattresses get severe body impressions include the total weight of working wire. Many mattress manufacturers use the lowest steel content innerspring mattress possible. An example of this is the practice of many companies selling you on "coil count". What they don't tell you is they only use two turns to the coil, instead of five or six. Or, perhaps it's a very thin wire. We call this "gauge" of wire. For example, a seventeen gauge wire is much, much thinner than a twelve gauge wire. Same as a twenty gauge shotgun is smaller in diameter than a twelve gauge shotgun. What this all adds up to is the total weight of working wire. This is what we guarantee to you - the greatest amount of working wire in the spring unit for the lowest price. That's the correct way to sell a mattress. An example of this is Serta - if you look at the coil unit in a Serta Perfect Sleeper, it will have only two turns. It will be a very light gauge wire. These coil units only weigh about 32 lbs. Heavy coil units can go as high as 74 lbs. That's a lot more steel. You add that to a non-cotton batted mattress with higher density foam, and your product will last twice as long. That's an American Mattress Company mattress!
Not only do we do this, but we also specialize in TWO-SIDED mattresses. Just like rotating your tires, if you can flip and rotate your mattress, it's sure to last longer. Tie that to a firmer multi-needle quilt pattern, and you've got a very, very durable product.

A Note On Foam:
Currently there are multiple vendors running "disposable" product categories. Many of our competitors have cut the density of foam down to barely capable. A good example of why you should buy your bedding from American Mattress Company is the density of foam. Other companies within driving range of our factory use what's called 90/30 foam. We use a minimum of 120/40. This is even in our budget oriented products. That's a 25% increase in foam quality all by itself. Let alone quantity. Scared of warranty claim service - well, here's your answer. Remember, even with a swap out, transportation is an expense of the consumer, and therefore, you will not get great reviews from that. We strive to keep our defect rate at under 1% which is four times less than the industry average.
